The Activator Adjusting Method uses an instrument referred to as the “Activator Adjusting Instrument” to provide the adjustive force. It is a small, hand held device that offers an impulse to the area being treated. This form of treatment is assessed by using the leg length analysis. Leg length analysis utilizes a series of body movements, challenges and leg checks to determine the location and listing of subluxated joints. The correction of the subluxations found with the leg checks is done with the Activator Adjusting Instrument (AAI).

At South Jordan Chiropractic and Wellness, we use the Pro-Adjuster, which can eliminate subluxations in a swift, but gentle manner. NASA initially designed the technology behind the Pro-Adjuster for use on space crafts to test whether the rivets on space shuttles would withstand the vibrations of take-off and landing. Then the technology was utilized on aircraft to check for metal fatigue. Now this space-age instrument is used here in our office to locate and treat subluxations effectively.

The way the Pro-Adjuster works is through the use of a sensor that relays information back to the computer. The sensor checks for normal movement of joints such as the vertebrae, and when it senses abnormal movement under the gentle pressure it exerts, it can provide a burst of therapeutic motions which ease the joint back into its proper place, thus eliminating the host of problems created by pinched nerves and bulging discs.

Additionally, we utilize the Impulse® Adjusting Instrument, which works similarly to the Pro-Adjuster by delivering swift adjustment of misaligned vertebrae. One of the significant benefits of the Impulse® is that it twice as fast as other adjusting instruments and 100 times faster than a manual adjustment! While that may sound daunting, it provides this adjustment comfortably and safely and in a more reliable manner than traditional manual adjustments.

There are many advantages of the Activator Adjusting Method. The Activator provides a faster impulse than the patient’s reflexes can counter. This necessitates less force due to greater speed. The adjustment is perceived as more gentle for the patient. The Activator provides greater specificity and reproducibility. It is also less stress on the chiropractor’s body.

The Activator is the most widely used chiropractic instrument. Studies show improvement with the Activator Method. It also has been compared to other techniques and proven to be just as effective. This means that for many patients an Activator adjustment could be very well lead to the same outcome as a manual adjustment. This offers chiropractors and patients an alternative to manual adjusting when it is preferred for clinical reasons.
